University of Hohenheim

Individual and unique: the highly specialized, oldest university in Stuttgart

Founded in 1818, in the aftermath of devastating famines, the University of Hohenheim not only undertakes comprehensive basic research but, by way of tradition, also develops innovative solutions for pressing social issues. Today, the University of Hohenheim is one of the leading universities in agricultural research and the food sciences, and enjoys a strong and unparalleled position in the natural, social, and communication sciences.

As a research university, the University of Hohenheim has a solid international network with many strong partners. It is a member of renowned research consortia and is involved in numerous third-party funded research projects.

One of the central founding ideas of the University of Hohenheim is sustainability, and this is proactively put into practice not only in research and teaching. The key topics for all faculties are the bioeconomy, i.e. the economy of the future with new products, production processes, and digital transformation. Together with research foci such as global food security, ecosystem research, and health sciences, the University of Hohenheim defines topics for future-centric research.

The degree programs at the University of Hohenheim are innovative and embrace experimentation. It offers a special range of courses in more than 40 Bachelor's, Master's and doctoral degree programs. It facilitates research-oriented learning already at the undergraduate level. The Humboldt Reloaded program for research-oriented studies was awarded the Ars Legendi Prize for excellence in teaching.

The green campus around Hohenheim Palace, where everything is within walking distance, is known as the most beautiful campus in Germany. The 9,000 students and 2,000 staff members value the personal atmosphere and the closeness to colleagues. As the oldest certified family-friendly higher education institute, the University of Hohenheim is one of the pioneers in the field of gender equality and family friendliness.
