The aim of the SustainMed project is to develop a waste and resource management system for medical products and procedures in order to minimise the use of disposable materials and optimise the recycling rate. This is because the average German clinic currently produces around eight tons of waste every day.
Over a period of 18 months, the project will receive funding of around €400,000 with a total volume of around €500,000
Role of BioRegio STERN in the project
Thanks to BioRegio STERN Management GmbH's good regional contacts in the healthcare industry, the results developed in the BG Klinik Tübingen as an example will also be made available to other clinics. The entire value chain of the healthcare industry is to be addressed. The involvement of the medical technology industry in particular is a prerequisite for the development of a comprehensive solution for the healthcare industry. This is where BioRegio STERN Management GmbH, with its large network of companies, can provide ideal support.
Prospects
In the first step, material flows in the clinic are identified and pilot products named that are to be analysed as examples. In addition, all employees at the BG Klinik are surveyed.
Later, a waste and resource management system for medical products and procedures is to be developed in order to minimise the use of disposable materials and optimise the recycling rate.
